Peacho Fountain McCorvey was born on April 23, 1922 in Tunnel Springs, AL to Elisha Fountain Jr. and Carrie Fountain. She was the 7th of their 11 children.
Peacho relocated to Pensacola, FL in the early 1940, where she later married Edward McCorvey on March 29, 1945. Shortly after, they began having their 5 children: Edward Jr., Jimmie, Larry, Harvey, and Debra. They were blessed to have 11 grandchildren; Jimmie Jr., Darrin, Kenneth, Antwann, Ayasha, Lerrick, Tamela, Bradford, Terrance, Demetrius, and Derrick; and 7 great grandchildren and counting.
Peacho was known for her love of family and was instrumental in shaping the current format of the Fountain family reunion. It was her drive that has kept her grandfather’s vision alive.
She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was a deaconess for many years and was a faithful choir member also for many of those years. She was always a role model for women, always pushing boundaries. She often was the first to seek new experiences. She was the first woman in her age group to drive a car, to enjoy the comfort of pants, and often contributed to the decision making within the family. She could get great results with very little resources.
It is a little known fact that she worked with the VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) Volunteer program that help to create summer jobs for kids in the neighborhood. The program provided outreach services for the youth and elderly in the Pensacola community.
Our angel returned home on June 20, 2012. She leaves behind a lasting legacy that has transcended many generations. She insisted that her family “look out for each other”. She believed in the goodness of all and was willing to share her wisdom. She was loved and will always be missed.
